Connect & First Checks

Before editing files

  • Use Join Game > Servers/Favorites or direct IP if available.
  • Workshop worlds/mods can extend first startup while content downloads.
  • Players may need matching DLC/mod content depending on world settings.

Files & Folders

Stop server before edits

SpaceEngineers-Dedicated.cfgDedicated server config: world path, server name, ports, admins, mods, limits.
Saves/<World>/Sandbox.sbcWorld settings and mod list.
Saves/<World>/SANDBOX_0_0_0_.sbsWorld entity data.
Mods/cache foldersDownloaded Workshop content.

Common Settings

High-use values

Admin Setup

Staff access

  • Add SteamID64 to admin settings in the dedicated config or world settings.
  • Restart after manual config edits.
  • Use in-game admin tools after admin ID is active.

Mods & Plugins

Install carefully

  • Add Workshop mods to the world config or through supported panel fields.
  • Large mod lists can slow startup and cause dependency failures.
  • Remove mods carefully; blocks/entities from removed mods may disappear.

Backups, Wipes, Rollbacks

Protect player data

  • Back up the entire Saves/<World> folder before mod changes.
  • Back up SpaceEngineers-Dedicated.cfg with the world.
  • For wipe/new world, archive the old save and point config to a new world.

Troubleshooting

Common tickets

World fails to loadBad mod/dependency or corrupted Sandbox.sbc. Restore backup or remove newest mod.
Admin not activeWrong SteamID64 or config not restarted.
Server not listedCheck query/game port and Steam browser delay.
